This is a research project that I worked on for a graduate class. It was designed to look at the relationship between player type or personality, and their in-game behaviour. We were specifically interested in behaviours such as sabotaging an opponent through an attack, or boosting their own performance.
We created a 2-D platformer game using Unity 4 and Photon networking, in which two users would play against each other over a network. Each player was trying to collect ten gems of their own colour before the other player. The players could steal their partner’s gem to cause a delay before it respawned, but didn’t receive a point for this. They also had an opportunity to use powerups whenever they had a full power bar. They could choose between sabotaging their opponent by stunning them for three seconds, or boosting their own performance by giving themselves the ability to fly for three seconds.
